This time we used our Groupon at the Blue Iguana Restaurant in Park City for lunch. It being the off-season, the restaurant was not very crowded on a Thursday afternoon and we were promptly seated by the waiter. The bus boy (not sure what else to call him, but for some reason “bus boy” doesn’t seem right) came to our table right after we were seated and gave us a basket of tortilla chips and bowl of salsa.

The Blue Iguana’s menu consists of all the normal Mexican fare such as tacos, burritos, enchiladas but also has vegetarian specialties and homemade moles. I always like to try restaurant specialties because well, it’s their specialty and should be very good. Or I try to get something that I wouldn’t normally make at home, like a mole, because it has like a 100 different ingredients and takes a lot of time to make. With this all in mind, I decided to get the amarillo mole ($16) which consists of almonds, veggies, and habanero chiles. I like the spicy food :-). My friend, who also likes spicy food, ordered the tinga poblana (slow-roasted spicy pork with chiles) chimichanga ($12). I also ordered a Sangria ($8), the specialty drink of the day.
Our chips and salsa disappeared quickly, but was promptly replaced with a fresh batch just before our meal arrived. Both are entrees came with large portions. You get to choose your choice of meat with the mole and I chose turkey because I recently saw a food show that mentioned turkey was a traditional meat eaten with

moles in Mexico. The amarillo mole was very tasty, but not nearly as spicy as I would have expected – they must go light on the habaneros expecting us gringos not able to handle it. The rice and beans were like any rice and beans you would normally get at a Mexican restaurant; good but not extraordinary. My Sangria was tasty and strong, but $8 for a small water glass amount seems expensive to me. However, I know liquor licenses and prices are costly to restaurants in Utah. Overall, I enjoyed my meal. My only complaint is I would have liked more of the tasty mole sauce with a little more heat (habanero) over the meat. My friend thought the pork chimichanga was very good, although not very spicy either. It also came with rice and beans a and guacamole, sour cream, tomatoes and onions for toppings. Without the Groupon, the total (without tip) was $44.20. This seems a lot to me considering it was lunch time and all we ordered was two entrees and two alcoholic drinks (Sangria and Tecate); no appetizers or desserts. But if you’re in the mood for authentic Mexican fare and you’re wondering around Main Street, Park City, then stroll around the corner and try out the Blue Iguana.
