Sundance Catalog
The first
mailing of the Sundance Catalog was in
1989. In those uncertain early days, Robert Redford once ""Let me say that if
for any reason this Catalog should fail, I plan to change my name and move to
Bolivia." Nearly 20 years later, it appears the uncertainty was unwarranted.
It all
started because of people's requests for unique, handcrafted items sold at a
tiny store in the village at the base of the Sundance Resort. People from all
over the country started writing letters, requesting to purchase more items that
they saw when visiting Sundance or from people who's friends had items they
liked and wanted to buy for themselves.
From the
inside cover of the first 1989 issue, Redford writes:
"...Our
General Store has established relationships with many special artists from
across the U.S. This catalog offers the kind of things that we have been
privileged to collect, many of them handcrafted exclusively for Sundance. When
you purchase something from this catalog, we appreciate the fact that the prime
reason is enjoyment for yourself. But you are also supporting American
craftspeople, the Sundance Institute for development of new artists in film,
music, dance and theater, and efforts to enhance and preserve the
environment..."
In
addition to apparel, shoes, bags, furniture and home decor, Sundance Jewelry
seems to be one of the most popular items from the catalog. Follow the links
