Park City Utah
Travel Tips
Below are
some helpful insider tips when
visiting Park City Utah. There's plenty more throughout the site, but we wanted
to make sure you didn't miss out on these top tips.
Tip:
Rental Cars are Not Really Necessary
Most
people find if they do rent a car, the only time they use it is to get to and
from the airport. The rest of the time it stays parked at their hotel. So unless
you really hate busses, we suggest you don't waste money by paying for a car
rental. Use the extra cash for a bobsled run at the
Olympic Park or fine dining or whatever your heart desires!
1.
Free Park City Utah Transit System
If you
plan to stay within Park City (between Deer Valley and Kimball Junction
- see
Map if you're not
familiar with the area I'm referring to), you really don't need a rental car.
Parking can be a problem, especially downtown and is mostly just a hassle.
The Park City Transit System is free to all
riders and runs 6:10am-2:10am daily in the winter and from 7:30am-10:30pm in the
summer (routes and times may vary).
Winter Bus Route Schedule
The bus
service goes nearly everywhere within Park city. From upper Deer Valley to
Kimball Junction and surrounding residential areas, buses will take you to the
three ski resorts and to the Old Town Historic District.
Bus stops
are abundant and run every 7-10 minutes downtown and 20-30 minutes on other
routes. You can pick up a handy little transit system guide that gives you a map
with routes and schedules.
Transit
guides are available at the visitor center, the Old Town Transit Center on Swede
Alley (one block east of Main Street, pic above) and lots of other places around town. I'm
sure if you ask the front desk of your hotel they'll be happy to get one for
you.
2.
Free Main Street Trolley Service
The Main Street Trolley Service runs 7 days a week from 10am to 11pm between
Main Street and the Old Town Transit Center. It will stop just about anywhere
along the street.
3.
Free Shuttle Service from Hotels
Many of
the hotels in Park City Utah offer free shuttle service. So if you miss the Park City
bus, you can probably get a ride from your hotel shuttle.
4.
Car
rental available in Park City
If one
day you decide you want to get out of Park City and explore, rentals are
available right in Park City. Some hotels even offer their own car rental. No
need to book a car for the whole week. Rent one just for the day(s) you want.
5.
Airport Shuttles to/from Park City
Many Park
City
hotels offer a airport shuttle to get to/from Park City Utah. If not, there are
plenty other
Park City Shuttles to get you here.
Tip:
BYOW to the Restaurants
A bottle
of wine can be expensive at Park City Restaurants, more so than usual because of
Utah Liquor Laws.
To save some money or to have
more choices, purchase wine at any of the
Park City State
Liquor Stores and bring the bottle to the restaurant. Utah calls this "Brown
Bagging". At the discretion of the restaurant or club*, brown bagging is
permitted at licensed establishments only.
A corkage
fee will be charged, and in most cases this will still be cheaper (corkage +
cost of wine) than buying the bottle at the restaurant. In order for your bottle
to be uncorked, it must have the Utah State Tax Sticker on it.
*You may want to check with the specific restaurant
to see if they allow brown bagging.

Tip:
Visit the Park City Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center
Stop at
the visitor center on your way into Park City Utah. There you will be greeted by a
friendly local who will be glad to answer any questions you may have.
There's
lots of brochures, informational pamphlets, maps, coupon booklets and more. It's
a cute little log cabin building located at the entrance to the
Utah Olympic
Park on 1826 Olympic Parkway. Open 9 a.m.-6 p.m., 7 days a week. 435-658-9616
