I purchased a Groupon for a 1-hour private golf lesson from the Jim McLean Golf School at Red Ledges for my father as a gift. Because it was still winter, my Dad had his lesson at the indoor facility on Main Street in downtown Park City. They have a state-of-the-art HD course simulator, TrackMan Launch Monitor measurement system, and the latest JC Video Golf Swing Analysis Software. My Dad loved it and would recommend it to any golfer who wants to improve his or her game. His instructor was Derek Butts, Assistant Golf Professional at Red Ledges and a Certified Instructor for the Jim McLean Golf Schools. Derek was very knowledgeable, patient and very good at giving my father tips to improve his swing.
1-Hour Golf Lesson at Indoor Facility in Park City – Summary of Tips
Here is the video that my Father received after his lesson with the golf pro. It sums up the key practice points that was discussed with my Dad during the lesson:
Derek started off with asking my Dad what he wanted to work on most. During his session, Derek analyzed my Dad’s driving swing and short game chipping and pitching. My father needed work on his back swing, then transferring his weight from the back and following through with his rotation. Two video cameras capture every swing for frame-by-frame slow motion analysis on a giant flat screen television. The simulator gives all kind of statistics including club speed, vertical swing plane, horizontal swing plane, attack angle, dynamic loft, club path, face angle, ball speed, spin rate, smash factor, spin axis, vertical launch angle, horizontal launch angle, landing angle, the carry, the carry side, total distance and total side. By the end of the lesson, he could already see improvement in his swing including distance and placement. What also is very cool is that they have a database of many of the pros and their swing. Derek put my Dad’s stance and Tiger Woods stance on the screen to compare.
The lesson through Groupon was 1/2 off at the time for $50 (usually $100). Now that it is spring, I see their updated prices are $75 for a 1/2 hour, $150 for an hour. Still pretty reasonable for what you get. My Dad has just recently been able to get out on the links to test his new skills and already sees a lot of improvement in his game from Derek’s tips. It’s nice too that he can always refer back to the video that Derek made for him to remind him exactly what to work on with his swing.
