We made reservations for 6pm and when we arrived the place only had a few tables occupied, but they said they were booked for the evening. About an hour or so later, the place was packed, so we do suggest you get reservations.

Drinks

Our friendly waitress took our drink order: Sapporro Tin (Japanese Rice Lager, $8) and a signature cocktail, No Thyme Like the Present which is a mix of Hendricks gin, muddled thyme, lime juice, cucumber simple syrup and white grape juice ($8). My friend’s Sapporro was good, but I especially enjoyed my Thyme cocktail, slightly sweet and refreshing.

Appetizer and Entrées

Shabu Firecracker Shrimp

For an appetizer, we had to try the Firecracker Shrimp – tempura rock shrimp, creamy-spicy sauce, tobiko & green onion ($18). It was perfectly battered, light and crispy and slightly spicy.

Kurobuta Pork Tenderloin Roulade

For our entrees we ordered one of their “Large Plates,” the Kurobuta Pork Tenderloin Roulade- with a sausage, date, and cranberry stuffing, an Asian applesauce, potato pancakes, roasted asparagus and crème fraîche ($38) and a signature dish, Moo Shu Duck – pan seared duck breast, glazed with cherry pad Thai sauce, rolled inside moo shu pancakes, served with blistered green beans ($36).

My friend enjoyed his dish except we both thought the pork, without the sauce, was a little overcooked and dry. The favorite part of my dish was the blistered green beans (flash fried, sweet and spicy miso sauce & peanuts). They were very tasty and nothing like I’ve had before as far as green beans go.

Moo Shu Duck

As for the duck, it was just okay. The duck pieces were sliced very thin, which made them tender and easy to eat, but if you gave that dish to me blindly, I wouldn’t know it was duck. The glaze hid the meat flavor on the thinly cut slices. And without dipping the wrapped bundles into the pad Thai sauce, it wasn’t very flavorful. I expected more from a signature dish. I wouldn’t order it again, but instead try the Miso Glazed Black Cod, Wagyu Beef Hot Rock or the Shabu, Shabu hot pot – on a side note, Shabu, Shabu is what Rachael Ray and her husband tried while at Shabu on “Rachael’s Vacation.”

Dessert!

Chocolate Molten Lava Cake

For dessert, we ordered the Chocolate Molten Lava Cake & House-Made Vanilla Bean Ice Cream ($10). The waitress said it takes a little time to make the cake, which was fine and certainly worth the wait. Since they knew we were splitting the dessert, they made a nice presentation on one long plate for both of us to easily enjoy, with two dishes of ice cream on either end and the molten cake to share in the middle. It was warm, gooey, chocolatey goodness paired with creamy, homemade vanilla ice cream. Mmmmmm….

The Total

Our bill total was $125.80 – $40 Living Social Coupon= $85.80 + $20 (cost of coupon) = $105.80 + tip on original amount. This is not Park City cheap eats, but a place to treat yourself on a special night out. Shabu had great service, nice atmosphere and I think better food than what we tried (at least as far as main entrees go) – we did love the appetizer and dessert.

Shabu Park City Location

442 Main Street, Park City UT
435.645.7253 Shabu Park City Website

Related Park City Utah Information:

Yuki Arashi Park City Restaurant Review

Park City Restaurant Review – Blue Iguana

Yolk on Main Kamas Utah Review

<script type="text/javascript"

The Heber Valley, including Heber City and Midway, offers a variety of activities including snowmobiling, Heber Valley Railroad scenic trips, snow tubing at Soldier Hollow, hot spring soaks and scuba lessons at the Homestead Resort volcanic crater, cross-country skiing, golf, Provo River fly fishing, hot-air balloon rides, just to name a few. So if you take a side-trip excursion over to the Heber Valley and get hungry, you may want to give the Snake Creek Grill a try.

Appetizers

We had dinner at the Snake Creek Grill on a Saturday evening at 6pm. By the time we left around 7:30pm, the place was full. It’s not a very large restaurant and they highly suggest reservations and so do we. We were seated promptly and our waitress took our drink orders and explained the specials for that evening. We started off with trying two appetizers which in hindsight, was way too much food, but we had our Groupon again this and wanted to try more dishes than usual.

Snake Creek Grill, Heber City

We ordered the Crunchy and Spicy Onion Rings with Blue Cheese Dip ($7.95) and the Hoisin Glazed Calamari and White Shrimp, Nappa Cabbage Slaw with Edamame ($12.95). The onion rings were the worst my friend had ever had. They had a thick, tasteless batter that appeared and tasted like it was not cooked through, very doughy and not very crispy, certainly not “Crunchy” like the description. The blue cheese dip was the only thing that made it worth eating, but after a couple bites we decided it wasn’t worth the calories. We would have told our waitress our opinion, but another server saw the rings sitting at our table without any activity and offered to box them up for us before our waitress came back. On a side note, there were two other servers on constant patrol, besides the waitress. that were very attentive to guests – refilling water, scraping food bits off the table, etc.. at perfect moments of necessity. Anyway, the onion rings were no good that night. But the calamari appetizer, on the other hand, was very tasty. I do not know what “white shrimp” is, but it tasted like, well, shrimp and was also good.

Main Course Entrées

For the main course, my friend chose the Grilled Pork Tenderloin with Smoked Sweet Paprika Rub on a Bed of Sauteed Greens, Creamy Corn Polenta Cakes, Rhubarb Pan Sauce and Oven Roasted Root Vegetables ($22.95). I choose one of the specials which was Fresh Australian Barramundi (also known as Asian seabass) topped with Mango Salsa, Mashed Potatoes and Black Beans($28.95).

My friend loves pork, especially when it is done right. Lately, the pork he has ordered at other restaurants, like Shabu, has been overcooked and dry. Joyfully surprised, the pork was finally cooked right this time. The pork was tender, succulent, juicy and very flavorful. All accompaniments on the plate were also just as delightful. The roasted vegetables where tender, but not overcooked, and full of flavor. The polenta cakes had a nice outside crust and a rich, creamy middle. The slightly bitter greens went well with the rich pork slices.

My entree was just as tasty. The fish was cooked to perfection, moist and flaky, with a nice contrasting outside crust of Parmesan breadcrumbs. The tangy-sweet mango salsa was a nice accoutrement to the mild fish. The mashed potatoes were rich and creamy and the seasoned black beans were good, but not my favorite. Portions were perfect, not too big or fashionably small. I did take photos of our dishes, however it was very dark and the only photo that came out well enough was the pie picture below.

Dessert!

Snake Creek Grill Black Bottom Banana Pie

I overheard our waitress describing the desserts saying that people come to the Snake Creek Grill just to try the Black Bottom Banana Cream Pie ($7.95). So how could we not try it? It was one of the best banana cream pies I have ever had. This masterpiece sits on a chocolate cookie crumb crust with layers of chocolate ganache, bananas, pastry cream and topped with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, fresh strawberries and mint sprigs. What’s not to love?!

Overall, we liked the Snake Creek Grill and would return. It is on the pricey side and I would consider it a “special occasion” restaurant for us. The service was superb, the ambiance quaint and cozy, and the food (aside from strange onion rings) was outstanding. Our total bill was $86.60 – $50 Groupon = $36.60 + $25 (cost of Groupon) = $61.60 + Tip. Not a Bad Deal!

Snake Creek Grill Location

The Snake Creek Grill is located in Heber Old Town on 650 West 100 North, tucked away in a mini “Western Town” with ol’ Western-looking buildings. Here is a link to their menu page.

Related Park City Utah Information:

Molly Blooms Park City Restaurant Review

Park City Restaurant Review – Blue Iguana

One Friday afternoon for lunch we used our Living Social Deals Coupon at Reyes Adobe in Park City on Main Street. We arrived around 12:30pm and there were four other groups of people eating lunch that afternoon, so not too busy. The person who greeted us at the door was very friendly and seated us promptly. For a semi-empty restaurant, however, it seemed quite awhile for our waitress to come to our table and take our order. The menu had plenty of options to choose from, including the standard Mexican options such as tacos, enchiladas, burritos, along with their specialty, carne asada. It was a windy, cold day in Park City so I was in the mood for something warming like soup, so I decided on the Posole Bowl ($12). Posole is a hominy stew and in this version with stewed pork and a red chile broth. My friend got the Baja Fish Tacos ($17).

When our waitress took our order, she left us with some homemade tortilla chips and salsa which was very pleasing since we were very hungry . Perhaps we were faster than normal eating our chips, but she didn’t return with our drinks until we had finished all the chips and salsa and were waiting for more. She did bring us more so that was good. I’m not going to complain about how long it took for our order to arrive since I’m hoping the time was spent cooking our food fresh from scratch. I can understand if the restauraunt was full and busy, but with only four tables full and two of them had already been served food, I do not understand why the service was so slow. Our waitress did not return to our table again after serving us our lunch until we were finished with our food.

The Posole Bowl ($12) at Reyes Adobe

My posole bowl comes with garnishes of diced onions, cilantro, dried Mexican oregano, lime slices and a type of Chile piquín sauce. As you can see from the photo, the bowl was very large and plenty to eat. Even though I was very hungry, I could not finish it. You have a choice of corn or flour tortillas or tortillas chips to come with your Posole. I chose corn tortillas, but they forgot. We had some tortilla chips left over from the refill, so I just decided to eat those instead of ask for the tortillas again. The posole was alright, nothing great. The broth was not as flavorful as I have had elsewhere, nor was the pork pieces very tender. I would not order it again.

Baja Fish Tacos (3) $17

My friend’s Baja fish tacos were okay, but he said the fish tacos from Rubio’s Mexican Grill (the fast food place) are much better and I agree. The fish was fried well, but it was put on a dry-grilled flour tortilla (not corn which I think is more traditional and tastier) which made the whole taco taste dry. There was no white sauce or any kind of sauce except for a miniscule amount of guacomole. It came with some kind of green salsa that tasted like it had horseradish in it, which my friend does not like at all, so instead he put the leftover salsa from the chips & salsa over his tacos so they wouldn’t be so dry. The Baja fish taco plate comes with 3 tacos and nothing else. No rice. No beans. Nada. Three tacos for $17? Not worth it to us, especially at a lunch price.

Would we return to Reyes Adobe? Probably not. The service wasn’t that great, the food wasn’t either and the prices too high for what you get, even though this is a Park City Main Street Restaurant where prices are higher than normal. I have heard the Carnes Asada, their specialty, is supposed to be very good so if you are a fan of that dish, you may want to stop by for lunch or dinner and give it a try.
This time we paid $12 for a $25 Living Social Deals to Reyes Adobe. So our total bill was $29.38 – $25.00 coupon = $4.38 + $12 = $16.38 + Tip (on original food total of $29). So basically we paid $16 instead of $29. A good way to try restaurants you haven’t been to before, especially if they are expensive.

Reyes Adobe Location

710 Main Street (tucked away in a pedestrian walkway just off of Main), 435-604-0720

We use both Living Social and Groupon for Park City Restaurant Discounts.

Related Park City Utah Information:

Molly Blooms Park City Restaurant Review

Park City Restaurant Review – Blue Iguana

Snake Creek Grill Restaurant Review

<script type="text/javascript"

For $30, we got $60 of food to order. Yuki Arashi’s cuisine consists of Asian tapas, sushi, sashimi maki and bento boxes. From their lunch menu we ordered the Gyoza (8.95), pan-fried house made pork and cabbage dumplings with soy chili dipping sauce; Tempura ($12.95), a mix of vegetables, shrimp and eel; Teriyaki Beef Bento Box ($12.95) which comes with miso soup, salad, rice and tempura vegetables; two of their Special Maki-Sushi: The Seoul Roll ($15.95) which is ahi and albacore tuna, rolled with avocado and sriracha, tempura fried; and the Jupiter Access Roll ($16.95) which is tempura shrimp and lemon zest, rolled inside-out and topped with yellowtail and albacore, finished with a spicy ponzu sauce. We also ordered some hot green tea ($2.95/pp) which comes to the table in a small tea kettle along with little tea flutes in a metal holder.

Beef Bento Box

Since it was early afternoon, there wasn’t a big crowd at Yuki. Just the two of us and another couple in the restaurant. They have sushi bar seating, main dining seating with booths and tables and then a more unique seating area, a tatami room, with pillow seats and privacy curtains for a romantic dining experience. Our numerous order came relatively quick and all the items layed out on the table looked like we were at a Japanese buffet. We ate the tempura first since it is best when hot. It was light and crispy as tempura should be and very flavorful.

The teriyaki beef was good, but I wouldn’t say my favorite. Just nothing extraordinary. The teriyaki sauce tasted like any other I have had, but I am definitely not a teriyaki connoisseur so you’ll have to judge that one yourself. The tempura that came with the bento box was just as good as the other we tried and the salad and dressing was simple and tasty. But if I returned to Yuki Arashi, I would not order the Bento Box again just because there are too many other better things to order. (On a side note – Sorry, the photos are not the greatest because I only had my iPod Touch with no flash and it was dark inside the restaurant).

Maki-Sushi: Jupiter Roll (Top) & Seoul Roll

Both Maki-Sushi rolls were very good. Our preference was the Seoul Roll only because we felt the ponzu sauce and lemon zest flavors overpowered the Jupiter Roll. The Seoul Roll was perfect without any accoutrements of wasabi, ginger and/or soy sauce. Perhaps the price for one sushi roll at $16-$17 is above average, but these were their special, more complex rolls with sushi grade, of course, ahi, yellowtail and albacore tunas.

Overall, we enjoyed our lunch at Yuki Arashi. Our server was very nice and helpful when we asked questions and checked up on us just the right amount of times. The food was excellent and the atmosphere relaxing. Our total bill came to $79, but we did order a lot of food for just the two of us. Somehow we managed to finish it all. It just doesn’t seem right to ask for a doggie bag for sushi. Glad we had a light breakfast . So $79 – $60 Groupon = $19 + $30 (purchased Groupon amount) = $49 (plus tip on original amount of $79). So this is not the cheapest place in town, but neither are most Park City Restaurants. I do not mind splurging every once in awhile, as long as the food and restaurant experience is worth it. And it was. So the next time your wandering around Main Street in Park City looking for a place to get your sushi, sashimi, maki and Asian tapas fix, give Yuki Arashi a try.

My one complaint is at the time of writing this and at least one week prior to going to Yuki Arashi, their website is not accessible. If you try to go to the website, it has a server error and won’t load (which is why I am not leaving a link). I had to go to other sites to find a phone number for them to make sure they were open. In this day and age of the internet, I do not understand how a restaurant does not keep an updated website. Bottom line, you are losing customers. I always recommend you call a Park City Restaurant before going. For example, if I didn’t call I wouldn’t have known they were going to be closed for the following week. I have found several restaurants do this during the shoulder season when there are less visitors in Park City, but often they do not update their websites so how would you know?! I went to one Park City restaurant and when I came to the address, there was an empty lot with bulldozers. They didn’t go out of business, they just moved. But the old site didn’t tell me where and the website wasn’t updated either. We have gone twice to restaurants that still had active websitesl, but when we arrived, found that they went out of business. So call first to be sure.

We get our discounts to Park City Restaurants through Groupon:

Yuki Arashi Main Street Restaurant Park City Location

Phone Number: 435-649-6293

Related Park City Utah Information:

Maxwells Park City Utah Restaurant Review

Park City Restaurant Review – Blue Iguana

Park City Main Street Restaurant Review – Shabu

<script type="text/javascript"

It being the off-season, the restaurant was not very crowded on a Thursday afternoon and we were promptly seated by the waiter. The bus boy (not sure what else to call him, but for some reason “bus boy” doesn’t seem right) came to our table right after we were seated and gave us a basket of tortilla chips and bowl of salsa.

Amarillo Mole

The Blue Iguana’s menu consists of all the normal Mexican fare such as tacos, burritos, enchiladas but also has vegetarian specialties and homemade moles. I always like to try restaurant specialties because well, it’s their specialty and should be very good. Or I try to get something that I wouldn’t normally make at home, like a mole, because it has like a 100 different ingredients and takes a lot of time to make. With this all in mind, I decided to get the amarillo mole ($16) which consists of almonds, veggies, and habanero chiles. I like the spicy food . My friend, who also likes spicy food, ordered the tinga poblana (slow-roasted spicy pork with chiles) chimichanga ($12). I also ordered a Sangria ($8), the specialty drink of the day.

Our chips and salsa disappeared quickly, but was promptly replaced with a fresh batch just before our meal arrived. Both are entrees came with large portions. You get to choose your choice of meat with the mole and I chose turkey because I recently saw a food show that mentioned turkey was a traditional meat eaten with

Tinga Poblana Chimichanga

moles in Mexico. The amarillo mole was very tasty, but not nearly as spicy as I would have expected – they must go light on the habaneros expecting us gringos not able to handle it. The rice and beans were like any rice and beans you would normally get at a Mexican restaurant; good but not extraordinary. My Sangria was tasty and strong, but $8 for a small water glass amount seems expensive to me. However, I know liquor licenses and prices are costly to restaurants in Utah. Overall, I enjoyed my meal. My only complaint is I would have liked more of the tasty mole sauce with a little more heat (habanero) over the meat. My friend thought the pork chimichanga was very good, although not very spicy either. It also came with rice and beans a and guacamole, sour cream, tomatoes and onions for toppings. Without the Groupon, the total (without tip) was $44.20. This seems a lot to me considering it was lunch time and all we ordered was two entrees and two alcoholic drinks (Sangria and Tecate); no appetizers or desserts. But if you’re in the mood for authentic Mexican fare and you’re wondering around Main Street, Park City, then stroll around the corner and try out the Blue Iguana.

Blue Iguana Restaurant Location

The Blue Iguana is located at 628 Park Ave on the corner of Heber Ave. and Park Ave. and across from the Kimball Art Center. There are several free parking lots on Swede Alley, the closest one is just a block and a half away on the corner of Swede Alley and Heber Ave, across from the Gateway Center and Jean Louis Restaurant. We arrived at the restaurant on a Friday about 6pm. There were only 3 tables occupied which seemed kind of odd to me for a Friday at dinnertime, but summer is the slow season for Park City. Cafe Trang is also located away from the busier Park City Main Street area which may also be a reason for less customers.

Anyway, we were greeted and seated promptly. The menu is huge, several pages long. It took my friend and I longer than usual to decide what we wanted because there were so many choices and many sounded really good. There were Vietnamese specialties, noodle dishes, soups, fire pots, seafood dishes, fondues, vegetarian meals, curries and more…oh my! My friend loves curry, so opted to get the Panaeng Curry ($13.95) made with coconut cream, green peas, potatoes and kaffir lime leaf. I like house specialties and have been wanting to try an authentic pho – a very special Vietnamese noodle soup infused with cinnamon, anise, onion and gingers. I ordered the Pho Hai-Noi ($10.25) which came with beef, tendons and beef balls (not what you’re thinking), but they also have a pho with just beef only. I wanted the full experience pho version. And we also ordered on this warm summer day, two glasses of Thai Tea – strong, sweet and yummy.

We didn’t have a long wait for our food to arrive since the place was nearly empty. My ginormous bowl of pho landed in front of me in all its glory. The pho is served with sprouts, jalapenos, lime, hoisin sauce, chili sauce and Thai basil; you can add as much or as little as you want to the soup.

The curry bowl, fantastically fragrant, also was a large serving which made my friend very happy …(drool). I was very pleased with my pho, even with the tendons which were tender. The broth was very flavorful by itself, but even better with all the added condiments. It took me a long time to finish my pho which I don’t think would have been possible if we had ordered and ate appetizers first. I think this large serving would have been the equivalent of 3 or 4 servings in Vietnam. My friend love the the curry which I tasted and thought was very good compared to other Panaeng curries we have had before in other restaurants.

Overall, we thought the service was good and the food fantastic. The prices are very reasonable for a Park City restaurant and especially for the amount of food you get and its high quality. In my previous restaurant review of the Gateway Grille, which is Kamas and not even in Park City, I paid $13 for a lunch entree which was not nearly half as good and much less food than what I received at Cafe Trang. We definitely would return to Cafe Trang for lunch or dinner, regardless of whether we had a Groupon or not.

Cafe Trang Park City Location

Related Park City Utah Information:

No related posts.

Gateway Grille, Kamas Utah Restaurant Review

Park City Restaurants

gateway grille

kamas utah

park city restaurant review

park city restaurants

road island diner

yolk on main

On another return trip from the High Uintas via Mirror Lake Highway, we decided to give the Gateway Grille in Kamas a try on a weekday afternoon for lunch. My [...]
Related Park City Utah Information:

Yolk on Main Kamas Utah Review

Road Island Diner Review, Oakley Utah

Maxwells Park City Utah Restaurant Review

<script type="text/javascript"

I wanted something a little more extravagant so opted for one of their specialties, sauteed prawns and feta cheese with tomatoes and basil in a spicy anisette cream over fettuccine. The sandwich was priced at $6.95 and comes with Lay’s Potato Chips; fries, soup or salad as sides cost extra. My pasta was $12.95. It says on their web menu that during lunch all pastas are served with warm bread and balsamic dipping sauce, but I never received any. It could be that their menu had changed since they put it online, or I was just stiffed out of bread. I don’t recall what the restaurant menu said.

The restaurant only had a few tables occupied and it seemed kind of a long wait before the food was served considering they weren’t that busy, but it was eventually served and with a smile. Let’s start with the sandwich. I did ask my friend why of all things did you order just a chicken sandwich? He said this is supposed to be a grill, so they should have an awesome grilled chicken sandwich, right? Fair enough. Well we both tasted the chicken sandwich and the meat was totally overcooked and very dry. The bun was toasted which made things worse because it was dry too. Lay’s chips, they were fine. So for $7, we got a dry chicken sandwich & a bag of chips. Really, a Wendy’s chicken sandwich would have been better and you would have gotten fries and a drink for less money. Not off to a good start.

My pasta dish, on the other hand, was very tasty. The fettuccine and prawns were not overcooked and the sauce was seasoned just right. Was it worth $12.95? If they gave me the bread that was supposed to come with it, maybe. I don’t know. I just expect a lot more from restaurants these days. I don’t want to spend my hard-earned money on mediocre food. And considering this was lunch, I would have been happier spending $8.95 for the pasta and perhaps $7 would be okay for the chicken sandwich if at least some fries came with it. I mean, come on – a bag of chips, really? I know it’s not easy running a restaurant and hard to stay in business, but you need to wow us if you want us to return. The chicken sandwich was overpriced and just not good at all. The pasta dish was tasty, but we think overpriced for a lunch item.

So we have been to the Road Island Diner in Oakley and both the Yolk on Main and Gateway Grille in Kamas. If you are really hungry from a long hike in the Uintas and on your way back to Park City, then go ahead and try one of these restaurants, but I wouldn’t make it a destination in itself. There are some new restaurants that have recently opened in Kamas and we may give them a try next time. We were starving and wanted to go somewhere at Kimball Junction as opposed to downtown. We sat inside the Whole Foods Market and used their free WiFi to bring up the Google map of Kimball Junction area restaurants. Molly’s is kind of hidden away in a corner between the Post Office and Park City Coffee Roasters (see map below).

It was about 6:45pm on a Sunday night. As you can see from the photo, April snow showers make for awesome spring skiing in Park City! Anyway, the place was pretty empty with only a few tables occupied and a couple of guys at the bar. The bartender and our server, Shaun, told us to take a seat wherever we like. He quickly took our drink order. My friend Don ordered a pint of Murphy’s Irish Stout – how could you not at an Irish pub?! I was undecided and Shaun was nice enough to let me sample some beer. I went with an ale. Don’t know the name exactly, but it’s labeled “Wylde” on our ticket. We later ordered Fish and Chips ($11.39), of course, and a Reuben sandwich ($8.39) because they make their own corned beef.
We received our meal about 45 minutes later which to me seemed awfully long (remember we were really hungry!) especially considering the place was nearly empty. I don’t know if this is a surreptitious ploy to make you buy more beer or because it was an early Sunday night and everyone is in chill mode. It was okay though because Don and I enjoyed drinking our beers and listening to the live music. The fish and chips meal did come with a salad which was delivered earlier and certainly saved us from famine.
As you can see from the photos (sorry about the poor photos – only had my iPod Touch with no flash), both meals came with fries. Don said his fries were hot and this means a lot because he will send warm fries back, I’m not kidding! But mine, for some reason, were luke warm at best. They were very thin fries and about half of mine were overcooked and dry, more like those potato string things you get in a can. The Reuben was tasty although next to a New York Deli Reuben would be laughable because of the lack of meat height. But this isn’t a NY Deli and it was still very tasty and filling. You could tell that the meat was homemade and not from the Smith’s Deli across the street. Don’s fish was good, but it had a thinner crust than a typical English/Irish style beer battered fish. The homemade tarter sauce was just okay. Seemed liked it was mostly mayo with a little bit of relish mixed in.

We enjoyed our time at Molly Blooms, but we wouldn’t return on a Sunday night. Maybe things are more hoppin’ on other nights and the food is better when there is a crowd. They have nightly entertainment, including beer pong and free poker on selected nights as well as a free pool night. As far as Park City restaurant prices go, this is definitely on the cheaper end (our total ticket for 3 beers and 2 meals came to $33) and a can be a good choice for friends who want a place to get some beers, play some pool, watch the game and eat pub fare after a long day on the mountain.

Molly Blooms Restaurant & Pub

Related Park City Utah Information:

Gateway Grille, Kamas Utah Restaurant Review

Snake Creek Grill Restaurant Review

<script type="text/javascript"

Oh how I have longed for an authentic New York style pizza that every pizzeria claims to have, but never really delivers (pun intended). We have tried several pizza places over the years that have come really close to NY style. The best one was Atlantic Pizza which I loved, but they packed it up and moved somewhere unknown – they didn’t even tell me they were leaving . There are two other pizzerias in Park City that have nearly New York style pizza – Red Banjo Pizza Parlour on Main Street and Davanza’s with two locations – one downtown on Park Ave. and one at Kimball Junction in the Walmart shopping area. I can’t hold it against them that they are not authentic because they are not even claiming to have New York style pizza, but it’s pretty good. There are other pizza places in town like the Park City Pizza Company and Main Street Pizza and Noodle which I cannot vouch for since I have not eaten pizza at either. Anyway, I digress…

Maxwell’s is located in the Redstone Plaza at Kimball Junction next to the Swaner EcoCenter. We arrived just before 5pm on a Friday. We were quickly greeted and offered a table. We asked if we could sit in one of the booths by the bar instead and the host said no one is serving those tables until 5pm, but after we told him we just wanted to order pizza he said that’s fine and will get someone to take our order. He was very nice and accommodating. I believe Maxwell’s have 19 HD flat-screen TVs throughout the restaurant, so basically wherever you sit, you won’t miss out on any game action. As I have mentioned, there is a bar with stool seating and several big booths. The atmosphere was definitely sports bar-like and jovial.

We ordered the 20″ Fat Kid Cheese Pizza with no toppings. We enjoy the New York style without any accessories because it doesn’t need it and only gets in the way of savoring the unique combination of a flavorful thin crust, high quality mozzarella and homemade tomato sauce. My friend ordered a Guinness on tap which was so smooth and much better than the Guinness in the can with the air bladder thingy.

The restaurant was about half full so it didn’t take long for the pizza to arrive swiftly at our table. It’s so big they put it up on a metal stand in order to still have room on the table to eat! Instead of plates, they give you wax paper-like sheets to put your pizza on. The pizza was perfect, just like I remember when I used to live near the Jersey Shore (no teasing) in my younger years. The slices were huge, like they should be, so that you need to fold it at the start when taking your first few bites. Which brings me to a second observation – the thin crust is pliable – not like a crunchy cracker which some pizzerias think is New York style. The cheese and sauce combination was perfecto. What is even more amazing to me, especially for a Park City Restaurant, is all this divinity only set me back $15 (for the pizza, $5 for the beer)! I need not say more – just look at the photo. My apologies for not having a photo of the complete pizza when it came to our table. My guest and I were so excited to dig-in, I was halfway through my second slice before I remembered to take a photo!

Now Maxwell’s has other things on their menu besides pizza like sandwiches, homemade pasta dishes, chef specialties, etc. and I’m guessing they would be good based on how great the pizza was, but you’ll have to test them out yourselves. And it is possible that you may not like their pizza because you prefer a thicker crust, but I’m just saying if I can’t get to Ray’s pizza in New York or my old local pizzeria in Jersey, then Maxwell’s is the next best thing.

I also ordered the Cannoli, “Just like Mom made it!”, with sweet ricotta cheese and chocolate chips. I’ve missed being able to go down to the local Italian bakery and get a few dozen of these sweet treats. Those in the Godfather knew it best, “…Leave the gun, take the cannoli.” My only complaint is that it wasn’t enough, especially since I had to share. I wish for $4 they would give either two small cannolis or one giant one.

Have you eaten at Maxwell’s or have had better pizza elsewhere in Park City? Kamas is a short drive from Park City and the Mirror Lake Highway is a beautiful destination either in summer or winter. We stopped in around noon and decided to order breakfast, which they serve all day, to fulfill what was lacking from our measly bowl of cereal earlier that morning. As we entered we were quickly greeted with a smiling face and told we could choose our seating. We chose a comfortable booth and were given our menus. I forgot to take a photo of the menu, but there is a pretty good selection of breakfast items as well as sandwiches, burgers and meals. I wanted to put a photo of the menu here because Yolk on Main does not have a website. They should have their menu at least on their Facebook page as a photo, but not yet.

Anyway I ordered the Hobo Breakfast and my friend ordered the Biscuits and Gravy. Most of the breakfast items are in the $7 to $9 range and the serving size is fairly large (as you can see from the photos). I chose a biscuit ($0.99 extra) instead of toast, scrambled eggs (2 come with) and hash browns as my potato choice. The hash browns were a skillet mix of onions, hams, tomatoes and green chilies and very tasty. My scrambled eggs were okay – a little overdone for my liking. The homemade biscuit was huge! I really liked it. It was light and fluffy on the inside with a crumbly crust. My friend, on the other hand, thought the biscuit was too heavy, doughy and dry for his liking and needed more gravy. So depending how you prefer your biscuit, you may like or not like it. One minus for me is that they give you a couple of those tiny plastic containers of margarine instead of real butter. Trying to eliminate hydrogenated oils since they now say you’re better off with butter. I will give the Yolk some slack though because I did not request any butter which may have been a choice.

We also ordered coffee which we both enjoyed and thought was much better than the usual weak diner-type coffee we were expecting. Our bill total came to $24 (without tip) for our two breakfast orders and two cups of coffee. The food was good, the service was friendly and prompt and the surroundings were comfortable and clean. But I do not think it was worth $24 and would not make it a destination restaurant. If I was hungry and coming back from a long hike from the Uintas and did not feel like cooking, I may stop there again – perhaps try something else besides breakfast. I think the next time we pass through, we may try one of the other restaurants in town – Pasillas, Gateway Grill or Summit Inn Pizza. We have already tried the Road Island Diner down the road in Oakley and weren’t too thrilled with it.
