December 24th: Annual Torchlight Parade: Enjoy some free hot chocolate, cookies and then when it gets dark, watch the lighted parade down the mountain led by Santa.

December 17th: Santa Skis Free Day: First 50 full-costume Santas get to ski or ride for free. Don’t try showing up with just a Santa hat or beard because it aint gonna cut it. All Santa or bust!

]]> Park City Mountain Resort has a limited amount of discount lift tickets for sale every season. Their $33 “Park City Screamin’ Deal” is an unbelievable deal for a full day lift ticket up until December 10th. From December 11th-17th the tickets are priced at $46 and the remainder of the month are $73. Considering a regular full day lift ticket will be somewhere around $90 (official price has not been released yet, TBA), these discount prices are pretty sweet. Now do note that the entire resort and all 114 trails will, most likely, not be open in late November, early December. But it all depends on mother nature. Just look at the dumping we had last December 14th – a champagne powder day that you would not have been disappointed with, especially not at a discount lift ticket price!

Liftopia is not the only place to get discounted tickets, but so far we have not seen anyplace else for the $33 deal. There are other sources you can find listed at our other page, Park City Discount Lift Tickets, such as at Salt Lake and  Park City ski shops or from the resorts themselves like “3 out of 7″ day deals but they are usually more in the realm of a 10-20% discount rather than a 40% discount like the Screamin’ Deal at $33 or  even $46. As I write this post, there is already days that have sold out of the $33 and $46 days, with a limited number posted on others like, only “11 left” at that price. So go ahead and take a look at the days that still have tickets left and perhaps grab a ticket or two for you and a friend, family member or just treat yourself! It’s time to grab those skis and boards out of storage, get them tuned and waxed to be ready for those soon to come powder days just around the corner. ]]> The Canyons Resort season pass discounts ends October 15th, this Friday, so hurry and purchase and save some cash. New improvements for this season at The Canyons include 300 new acres of terrain, a “Ski-Beach” with firepits, lounge chairs and outdoor food stations, heated lift seats with an overhead bubble cover for weather protection and many other improvements to the mountain base area, terrain and lodging.

This season The Canyons Ski Resort is offering passes with varying degrees of benefits and which is reflected in the price. The basic pass is called the Silver Pass and the upgrade is the Gold Pass. There is also a Canyon Club platinum level membership. The price for the Silver Adult Full Season Pass is $999 until October 15th, $1,299 after the 15th. In comparison, the Gold Adult Full Season Pass is $1,399 until October 15th and $1,699 after the 15th. So you will save $300 if you make your season pass purchase now. So what is the difference between the Silver and Gold passes besides the $400 price difference? With the Gold pass compared to the Silver Pass, you get 1 more day lift ticket for friends or family, 2 more complimentary lodging nights, 2 more adult ski or snowboard lessons, 1 more gold level ski or board tune and two lunch entrees at The Cabin vs one appetizer or desert (for Silver Pass holders). Both Silver and Gold Passes include Up To 4 Buddy Passes Per Day For $59 Each, 15% Discount at Canyon Mountain Sports & One Sweet Ride, 15% Discount on Ski & Snowboard Rentals, Unlimited Hot Chocolate, Coffee or Tea, Weekly Winter Mountain Tour and Summer Lift Privileges. So head on over to The Canyons Resort Season Passes before the savings end on October 15th. The Park City Mountain Resort also has a similar pass offering with different levels of benefits. Their season pass prices will be going up after October 31st.  The Deer Valley Ski Resort also offers discounts for ski passes prior to October 31st as well.

]]> Park City Utah Spring SkiingWhat about Park City Utah spring skiing?  One of the best times to plans your vacation and often some of the best skiing of the season.  We have several storms during the month of April, dumping several feet of fresh powder on the slopes.  Sure, down near the base of the resort the snow gets that familiar “mashed potato” type of texture during the afternoon warm-ups, but mid-mountain and up, the snow is still awesome after a storm, light and fresh Utah powder.

During the month of April, the slopes are a little less crowded, with the exception perhaps of Easter weekend.  The temperatures are a little warmer so you do not need too many layers as in the colder months which makes things a little more comfortable.  People enjoy eating their lunch outside at Red Pine Lodge at the picnic tables as if the snow was sand and you were having a day at the beach – yes, sometimes it even feels that warm but it is very comfortable at that altitude with low humidity and thin, dry air.

There are also usually discount package deals from most of the Park city hotels and resorts during the spring months.  You may be able to save half off the regular high season prices during December, January and holiday periods. Note that typically, Deer Valley Resort closes up to one week earlier than The Canyons Ski Resort and Park City Mountain Resort.  It’s just how Deer Valley rolls.  If your stay is long enough, it is also a good time to visit Utah National Parks. Within in a half day drive from Park City, you can be at Arches, Canyonlands and Capitol Reef National Parks, among others. These parks become crowded during the summer months and can have extremely high temperatures during the day, but during the spring, crowds are low and temperatures are pleasant.

So if you are debating what time of the skiing season to plan your vacation, do not discount the month of April. Now, we cannot make guarantees that April will offer you the best skiing of the season, but more often than not, it is not the worst time of the season for sure.  I overheard someone on an airplane once talking to a couple of guys that were going to Utah to do some skiing in December. He said he went to Utah in November/December and the skiing was not so great. Not too surprised. Unless we get some huge snowstorms in November, the skiing can never compare to what it is like from January through April.  They do some snowmaking at the resorts, but the machines can never cover all the terrain, especially not off trail, so advanced skiers especially will not be too impressed with the skiing conditions sometimes early in the season.

Next it is time to focus on Park City Summer Activities since the ski season is officially over here in Park City. Would you believe that Snowbird here in Utah, sometimes has stayed opened during the weekends throughout the month of May and sometimes into June?! They sometimes get a ton of snow too during the spring snowstorms. Anyway, there is plenty of things to do in Park City during the summer months so come on out and plan your summer fun mountain vacation!

I think this is an offer you must take advantage of if you arrive early enough. Heck, even if you can get in only an hour or two, it’s still worth it. Liftopia Discount Lift Tickets

What is Liftopia and how come they can offer lift tickets so cheap?  Well, I never heard of them until today so I looked at their “About Us” page for more info.  They basically say that the resorts want you to buy lift tickets, uh yah, and they can offer these tickets so cheap because you have to pay for them in advance and there are no refunds.  So they get you to spend money on a ticket that perhaps you otherwise would not have purchased. Then you are at the resort, having fun, spending more money on food, at the retail shops, lodging, etc. so Park City wins in the long run for offering this $40 discount and so do we!

Now you have to create an account at Liftopia in order to purchase the discount ski lift tickets online. No biggie and it is probably the hardest part about the whole deal.  I hate giving out my email to another online store, but Liftopia says, “Liftopia will never share, rent, sell or trade your information with anyone. We are committed to protecting your privacy.” I always use a separate email account (gmail & yahoo are easy for this) for buying things online, just to make sure my main personal account does not get spammed.   Anyway yes,  you do have to buy the lift tickets in advance and yes there are no refunds or transfers so be sure you can ski or snowboard that day.

Park City Screamin Deal Lift Ticket Discount December 12th – 18th, 2009

When you go to this page about the Park City Screamin Deal, the page shows for one particular date, like December 12th, but there is a little picture of a calender that says, “Flexible Dates? See More Deals” – just click on the link for more deals and you can pick any date between December 12th-18th.

I have never purchased from Liftopia, but seems like an easy way to get a great discount if you know you can ski or board that day.  You make your purchase online and then bring your email receipt to the resort. Like I said before, no refunds, no cancellations, no exchanges or transfers to other people. You have to bring a photo id when picking up your tickets too.  They cannot offer deals like this with a lot of flexibility, otherwise why we would bother paying $80 for a lift ticket at the Park City Mountain Resort if it was easy to get it elsewhere at discount with no restrictions?

They appear to have the same deal for The Canyons Ski Resort as well, but when I clicked on the link, no dates were shown which may mean they are already sold out for The Canyons Resort or there are dates available further in the future. No discounts for Deer Valley, as I expected, but there are other deals for other Utah ski resorts like Brighton, Powder Mountain, Snowbird and Sundance . These resorts -  Alta, Brian Head, Beaver Mountain, Snowbasin, Solitude and Wolf Creek are listed but it says no lift ticket deals currently available – but that may change.

They say you can buy tickets as late as the day before you go, but keep in mind there is a limited quantity of lift tickets for sale, so do not plan on $38 full day Park City lift tickets to last up until the last day you can purchase them.  As I write this, the Liftopia site says there are only 16 tickets left at this price – I think it means for that one particular day, but as word gets out, they will go quick, so go now!

Rider Weekend Offer for 3 Nights -$115.00 per person per night based on double occupancy.

3 nights lodging and 2 days of lift tickets at Park City Mountain Resort for each person. Hotel-style accommodations are located just 1.5 miles to the resort and are on the free city shuttle route. Guests have access to an outdoor heated pool and hot tub. This offer is very flexible with upgrades to studio units, extra nights or additional lift tickets for an added cost.  I’m assuming just because they call this a “Rider” package does not mean you have to be a snowboarder. But hey, you never know, so just ask to verify if you are a skier. :)

Winter Great Escape Package for 3 Nights – Value Season $120.00 per person per night based on double occupancy.

Value Season dates 1/4-1/19 and 3/28-4/4. Regular Season $135.00 per person per night 12/19 to 12/24; 1/31 to 2/11; 2/18 to 3/27.

3 nights and 2 days of lift tickets for each guest at a one-bedroom condominium located two blocks from the base of Park City Mountain Resort.
